How to Test Your Car's Battery in Ventura

Getting into your car on a cold morning and turning the key only to have it not start is a hassle. You can prevent this by checking your car's battery once per month. To do this, take the key out of the ignition. Make sure the vehicle's lights are off. Connect the red test lead on the voltmeter to the red lead on your battery. Connect the black or negative test lead on the voltmeter to your car's negative battery terminal.

If the readout is 12.4 volts or higher, your battery has enough charge. If it is lower than 12.4 volts, it is time for a replacement battery. Remove the negative cable first.
